All for Good is a hub for volunteerism and community service on the Internet, and a service of Points of Light, connecting Americans with nonprofits both large and small.

All for Good began taking shape in December 2008. It was directly inspired by the call of President Obama to engage more Americans in service, the social media achievements of his campaign, and the musings of Internet pioneer Craig Newmark. Influenced by these trends, a group of changemakers from the technology, marketing and public sectors convened to design an online resource for Americans to easily find ways to serve.

The concept found a receptive audience with leading thinkers in both the public and private sectors. A team of engineers and product managers at Google grew passionate about this vision; they agreed to lend 20 percent of their time to help build an application. Others quickly signed up, including Craig Newmark himself and other leadership from the Craigslist Foundation. With this momentum, an all-volunteer team came together, drawing in representatives from a wide range of other organizations, including Aha! Ink, Craigslist Foundation, EchoDitto, FanFeedr, UCLA, and YouTube.
