Thousands of Texans and others will gather at San Jacinto Battleground State Historic Site on Saturday, April 21st, 2018 to celebrate the brief but decisive battle that brought Texas its independence from Mexico.

Living history exhibits open at 10 a.m. Saturday, providing visitors the opportunity to wander throughout the Mexican and Texian army camps to learn about what members of both armies were doing before the battle and what their life was like on a daily basis. In the civilian camp, women and children in clothing from that period will demonstrate the hardships experienced by those who, with their husbands and fathers at war, were forced to flee the advancing forces of General Santa Anna in what became known as the Runaway Scrape.

The festival activities will be followed by a reenactment of the famous Texas revolution battle. At 3:00 p.m., Booming cannons, cracking musket fire, thundering hooves and desperate battle cries resound across the San Jacinto Battleground as hundreds of history reenactors recreate the events up to of April 21, 1836!

This dramatic battle reenactment is the centerpiece of the admission –free San Jacinto Day Festival. Sponsored by the San Jacinto Museum of History, Texas Parks & Wildlife and the San Jacinto Volunteers, the festival is a full day of music, entertainment, games, and fun set amidst living history. Texas-style foods and beverages will be offered for sale at the park.
