All summer long, you can see bugs unlike ever before – up to 60 times larger than their normal size! From the 7-foot ladybug to the 33-foot tarantula, you’ll see these bugs in great detail as each is made to look exactly like its smaller counterpart. As you meet our Big Bugs, you’ll also learn the important role each bug plays in nature and how we can all help to protect each species. From pest control and food maker to crop protector and forest recycler, we could not live without these bugs.

Friday, June 1, the Zoo will close early for a private event. Last entry at 3 p.m., and the Zoo closes at 4 p.m.
Thursday, June 21 and July 19, the Zoo will close early for After Dark: A Summer Series. Last entry at 4 p.m., gates close at 5 p.m.
The fascinating lives of bugs will be unveiled in this unique experience with our expert bug keepers. They want to WOW you with an opportunity to touch some of our Bug House residents, visit the behind-the-scenes areas to learn how they care for these animals and share personal stories of what Houston Zoo is doing to save insects all over the world.
Thanks to TXU Energy, the Houston Zoo is staying open late, so you can enjoy the animals in the cooler evening weather. Join us for Evening Chill every Friday & Saturday evening from June 22 through August 18. From 5 to 8 p.m. guests can enjoy added music and fun family activities that are sure to entertain kids and adults alike! All activities are included in Zoo admission and are free for Zoo Members.
On the first Saturday of each month (first Sunday in November), Members may enter the Zoo one hour before opening to the general public. Enjoy cooler weather and see the keepers prepare enrichment and animal areas all around the zoo.
In honor of World Tiger Day, join us for a Tiger Spotlight on Species event! See our resident Malayan tigers celebrate
with some special enrichment items in their habitat. Attend talks and learn all about tigers as well as palm oil, a key ingredient affecting Malayan tigers in the wild due to its effect on deforestation.
