Celebrate back to school season by making paper-craft Japanese bento boxes at Asia Society Texas Center!

Please help us keep this calendar up to date! If this activity is sold out, canceled, or otherwise needs alteration, email mindy@kidsoutandabout.com so we can update it immediately. If you have a question about the activity itself, please contact the organization administrator listed below.

Come celebrate back to school season with Japanese bento boxes! Bring your appetite for art to create these paper-craft versions of bento. No actual food will be used.

You have probably seen these nicely compact boxes of arranged food, whether in a Japanese restaurant, a friend’s homemade lunch, or even in an episode of your favorite anime. Sometimes the boxes are formal and fancy, or they may be elaborate and contain food that resembles popular characters or animals. Learn about the interesting history behind these cute and convenient boxes that stretches all the way back to the 17th century, and then create your own paper-craft bento box.
