Explore The Dirty South: Contemporary Art, Material Culture, and the Sonic Impulse through close looking and by answering questions about the exhibition’s Cabinet of Wonder. Popularized in 16th-century Germany, “cabinets of wonder” (also known as wunderkammern) were displays that held small oddities, natural phenomena, and art objects that inspired curiosity and marvel. Such collections laid the foundation for the modern-day museum, inspiring institutions to create their own displays of special, thought-provoking objects.
